Summary:
All told, Tommy had-had a pretty normal day. All of his rescue flights went off without a hitch. Cap had sprung for the 217’s much coveted Thai delivery from the place down the block, and the typical post-work LA traffic flowed like a river all the way home.

Eddie Diaz however, had not been as lucky.

All told, Tommy had-had a pretty normal day. All of his rescue flights went off without a hitch. Cap had sprung for the 217’s much coveted Thai delivery from the place down the block, and the typical post-work LA traffic flowed like a river all the way home.

Eddie Diaz, had not been as lucky. Every call had gone as sideways as they could without bordering the threat of death. Then, an unknowing and stubbornly unrelenting probie has gotten into it with Buck over the proper way to roll up the hoses (Ravi had stood off to the side, watching with unashamed glee.)

To round out the day, the two flat tires that greeted them at the end of that hellish shift had Eddie snapping at Buck, his ill attempted jokes falling flat as they waited for Tommy to come pick them up. The normally chatty drive home was heavy with a sullen silence.

Tommy had barely cut the engine before Eddie springs from the cab of the truck, stalking off to the little home gym tucked behind the garage. Most likely to have a long chat with their well-worn punching bag. Buck and Tommy wordlessly glance at each other before hauling his and Eddie's bags into the mudroom, calling out hellos to Chris as they enter.

Chris finds them in the kitchen sneaking behind Buck who's busy chopping some last minute veg for dinner. The almost-teen (as Chris would say - thank you very much) bumps a glum looking Buck before stealing a rogue carrot from the cutting board with a cheeky grin.

As always, Chris’ playfulness brings a soft, easy earned smile to Buck’s face as he gently bumps the kid back.

“You’re such a brat.” Buck laughs, going to turn back to his chopping before a hand grabs him, locking around his bicep and yanking him from the counter.

Eddie shoves Buck back up against the fridge, the glass inside rattling loudly as he steps into Buck’s space. Jabbing a finger angrily into the blonde man's face.

“You don’t talk to him like that. Do you hear me?” he growls, pressing Buck harder in the fridge, the stainless steel complaining under the pressure.

“Dad?” Chris’ voice is timid and rings in the sudden silence of the kitchen. A silence broken further by the scrapping of Tommy’s stool as he jumps up, rushing to stand in front of Chris. Gently nudging the boy back to the doorway.

“Go to you room, Chris. Please. It’s okay, we’ve got this.” he reassures.

Thankfully Chris doesn’t argue or scoff at being sent away and Tommy listens as the sound of his crutches fade away behind a closed door before turning back to the situation at hand.

Even from across the room, Tommy could see how tight Eddie’s grip was on Buck’s arm but the pained grimace on the other man’s face tells him more than enough.

“Hey Eddie, let’s take a step back and talk about this, huh sweetheart?”.

Tommy edges his way into their space, stopping just short of his lovers. He wants nothing more than to grab Eddie. Grab them both and tug them into his arms but he knows first hand just how much of a misstep that could be so he waits. Waits and hopes that he can get through to the struggling man.

Brown eyes flash him a quick, sharp glance, almost imperceptible before their attention is firmly pinned back on Buck.

Tommy sighs softly, knowing now what he has to do. His heart breaks at the thought of Eddie feeling any semblance of guilt ever. It cracks even further at the knowledge that he would be the one to do it.

Taking a risk, Tommy positions himself behind the other man, gazing into Buck’s sad, weary eyes as he leans forward and whispers in Eddie’s ear.

“Eddie, you’re scaring Chris sweetheart. You’re scaring your son. Please, you have to stop, for him.”

Eddie flinches at his words. The fierce hold on Buck slipping just a miniscule amount before sadly, tightening up again.

Tommy blinks away the tears stinging his eyes and doubles down.

“You’re hurting Evan, Eddie. And I know you. I know you well enough that that’s the last thing you’d ever want to do. To put our boy through any more pain.” Tommy pushes, voice gruff with conviction. “You need to stop, now Eddie. Hasn’t he been through enough?”

The tense silence echos with the sound of Eddie’s labored breathing. Tommy waits. And waits. Until, there. The facade crumbles as suddenly as it appeared. Eddie’s chin trembles violently, the vibrations running through taunt muscles, before finally he lets Buck go. Arms falling limply to his sides as he begins to sob.

Tommy and Buck don’t hesitate to fold their distraught love into their embrace. Tucking Eddie safety between them and sheltering him with warmth and soft words.

“We’re here, Eddie”

The rasp of Buck’s voice harmonizes with Eddie’s cries. His long arms draw them even closer as he clears his throat to try again.

“We love you and we’re not going anywhere.”
